Site Policies

As already outlined in Site Architecture, the objective in designing this site was to use a simple set of architectural principles and policies.

The policies that I have applied include:

  • Clean, non-semantic, naming convention for all "logical objects": semantics change over time, and that can be reflected in updates to the metadata associated with any object.
  • Persistence in logical object identifiers. As these are the basis for linking on this site, they must never fail, even if the content to which they point is considered obsolete.
  • Use only Dublin Core metadata for logical objects. Terms such as "version", "language", "format", etc. should be associated only with specific representations, and not with the logical objects.
